Fulton Award Commendation (Concrete Society of South Africa)
Commendation in the ‘Building Project’ category, for excellence in the use of concrete: Bowman Gilfillan Head Office, Sandton
Located opposite the Discovery Health Head Office and in the same road as Sun International, this building completed a ternion for Paragon Architects' early developments in Sandton. Exploiting its position on a prominent corner in this major African commercial district, the building volume and its design provide a fitting home for one of the continent’s most prestigious law firms.
Gauteng Institute for Architecture (GIfA) Regional Merit Award:
Sun International Head Office, Sandton
Built at a time of Sandton’s rapid expansion, this building is the flagship for a very large Hospitality company. The building utilises cladding to reflect the sleek nature of the building form, which is further articulated by the use of sun screening devices to the north, east and west. The introduction of vegetation and a podium contribute to the relationship with the street.
